It was a cool day in Spring that the youths from Brechin took the hills around Glenesk for an overnight camp at the Hedzup Outdoor Centre.
A midday arrival at the Centre was followed with a quick lesson to put up their tents following which the youths set up camp along the riverside.
A bit of rain did little to dampen their spirits as they spent the afternoon playing around the Centre and enjoying their new camp and the warm of the sleeping bags.
With the sun setting later in the evening the group set up their campfire and looked forward to a night walk along Glenesk before settling down for the night and some well earned rest.
Without doubt it was a successful camp experience for the group and proved once again that given a suitable opportunity youths can take on new skills and excel. Heading home after a dusting of snow in the morning they were all asking for the next camp date at the Centre.
Taking youths out into nature, giving them the experience of setting up their own camp, a camp fire, outdoor cooking, walking in the hills and sleeping out overnight - all within a safe and controlled environment - is one of the many priceless programs we can offer.
