Last weekend marked the first meeting of the season at East Fortune Circuit—and for most of the Hedzup Racing team, the first time back on track this year. It’s been a busy week since, but one worth capturing properly.

Preparation & Setup

Like every race weekend, it starts long before qualifying. The team rolled in early, getting the bikes prepped, pit space organised, and everything dialled in for race conditions. There’s a rhythm to it—unload, check, build, refine.

The youth crew played a big part here. From helping set up the pit area to assisting with equipment and general organisation, they were fully involved from the outset. It’s not just about racing—it’s about learning how everything fits together behind the scenes.

Team & Riders

This weekend saw Calum Pert competing in the Junior Post Classic class on the Alasdair Cowan NC30. For this round—and hopefully the rest of the season—he was joined by Ronan Meek, also riding an NC30.

A big thank you goes, as always, to David Dick, whose continued support gives us the platform not just to race, but to bring through young riders.

Supporting the riders was a small but highly effective pit crew of Tyler West, Harrison Gray, and John Cant, with Finlay Milne overseeing the pits as always—keeping things tight, organised, and running as they should. We’re all hoping to see Finlay back on a bike soon.

Qualifying

A strong start to the weekend:

Calum Pert secured pole position.

Ronan Meek qualified 5th, an outstanding result considering he had never completed a lap on the bike before.

Race Results

Race 1

Calum carried forward last season’s form with a commanding win.

Ronan followed up with an excellent 4th place, settling in quickly and showing real potential.

Race 2

The pace was there again until a late collision between Calum and a back marker. Both riders stayed upright, but Calum rejoined in 4th and ran out of time to recover.

Ronan finished 5th, continuing to improve his lap times.

Race 3

Normal service resumed—Calum back on top with another win.

Ronan secured 4th place, having taken 6 seconds off his lap times from qualifying to the final race.

Youth Development in Action

Across the full weekend, the Hedzup youth team were outstanding. They weren’t just present—they were active, responsible, and contributing at every stage:

  • Supporting pit setup and breakdown

  • Assisting riders and crew

  • Observing and learning race-day operations

This is exactly what Hedzup is about—real involvement, real responsibility, and real growth.

Pack Down & Reset

Once the racing stopped, the work didn’t. Equipment was packed down, bikes secured, and the pit cleared with the same discipline it was built with.

The youth crew stayed engaged right through to the end—helping strip down, load up, and reset everything ready for the next round. That consistency matters.

Team Highlights Beyond the Track

Two standout mentions from within the team:

Tyler West – continuing to show exceptional dedication and talent in archery at a national level.

John Cant – stepped into the ring for a charity boxing match and came away with the win.

Both reflect the mindset we build—discipline, commitment, and stepping forward when it counts.

Acknowledgements

A huge thank you to everyone who makes this possible:

  • David Dick

  • Alasdair Cowan

  • Oil Slick Dispersants

And all those working behind the scenes.

Special thanks to Melville Motor Club for delivering a well-run and professional event.

Looking Ahead

It was a strong opening weekend—solid results, clear progress, and a team effort from start to finish. Now it’s packed, reset, and focus shifts forward. We go again in a couple of over the weekend of May 16-17 at East Fortune.

See you all there!
