If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a mountain rescue expert decides the world needs more opportunities for kids (and less boredom), meet Ian Pert – the brains, heart, and slightly madcap energy behind Hedzup Ltd, Scotland’s not-for-profit that turns young people into confident, capable, outdoorsy, employable superheroes. Ever humble, he won't blow his own trumpet so we'll do it for him.
🏔️ From Mountain Rescues to Youth Rescues
Born in a year some time ago, Ian didn’t spend his youth twiddling thumbs. He spent it on the rugged Scottish hills, learning the ropes of mountain rescue. One fateful day, while waiting for a helicopter with fellow rescuer Ewan Stewart, Ian had an epiphany: “Why not rescue youths from a future of boredom and missed opportunities?” And just like that, Hedzup Ltd was born.

🛠️ Director of Fun (and Skills)
As director of Hedzup, Ian wears many hats – figuratively so as not to mess up that distinctive mohawk style. Under his watchful eye, the organisation has become a one-stop-shop for:
Youth Development Programs: Teaching teamwork, leadership, and the kind of confidence that makes kids say “I’ve got this!”
Outdoor Skills Training: From ropes and tents to survival know-how and first aid – because who doesn’t want to be MacGyver by age 16?
Work Experience Initiatives: Partnering with local services (like the Angus 16+, and Discover Work Service in Dundee) to help youths score their first jobs – and possibly their first paychecks that aren’t Monopoly money.
And for a dash of adrenaline, there’s Hedzup Racing – a motorsport project where teens get behind the scenes of running a motorcycle racing team, and race events in Scotland, the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.
🌍 Community Hero with a Fundraising Twist
Ian’s not just about teaching and racing; he’s a master of the fundraising hustle. Remember the “Hedzup Youth Development Mini Bus” campaign? Thanks to Ian’s charm (and a sprinkle of Scottish persuasion), the community helped raise almost £10,000, enough to get the young adventurers moving in style.

📍 Why We Love Him
Ian Pert isn’t just running an organisation – he’s running a movement. From hillsides to racetracks, from volunteer projects to career prep, he’s helping young people turn potential into action, boredom into adventure, and “I can’t” into “Watch me!”
In short: if there were a superhero league for youth development, Ian Pert would be in the front row wearing a helmet, harness, and a big smile.
